Sustainable Development Funding Program

Infrastructure Funded Projects
In 2001, the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) initiated the Sustainable Development Program to respond to local initiatives for Town Centers, Mixed-Use Growth Centers, and Transit-Oriented Developments, reduce vehicle miles traveled, and promote economic development through public/private partnerships. Since 2001, the program has funded three Calls for Projects, programming $120 million for infrastructure, planning, and landbanking projects to support sustainable development throughout the region.

Under the 2001 Joint Venture Call for Projects, North Central Texas Council of Governments funded 21 projects for a total of $40.8 million in federal funds. The 2005-2006 Sustainable Development Call for Projects, totaling $40 million, provided funding for 28 Infrastructure Projects. The RTC initiated the third Sustainable Development Call for Projects in March 2009, designating $43 million for sustainable Infrastructure Projects, which were awarded in 2010.
