Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Number Program Public Education

education NCTCOG provides 9-1-1 public education throughout the region. Educational materials are designed, developed and distributed to the general public through this program. The 9-1-1 TAG Team is a group of volunteers dedicated to the development and sharing of 9-1-1 educational programs and resources. This group of over 150 individuals is vital to the NCTCOG 9-1-1 public education effort as they work directly with the public in their local areas to educate them on 9-1-1. 9-1-1 TAG Team training workshops are provided quarterly by NCTCOG and Tarrant County 9-1-1. We also provide assistance regarding media inquiries.

To educate kids, Red E. Fox is the national mascot for 9-1-1 and is used extensively in this region. NCTCOG has distributed Red E. Fox videos to every Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade class in the region. The 9-1-1 program also owns two walk-around Red E. Fox costumes that are available for check-out. In addition to the young children, NCTCOG also works to educate older children, adults, senior citizens and those who are deaf and hard of hearing. Cell Phone Sally is helping Texans become more cell-phone savvy. Presentations are given on a request basis, in addition to the special campaigns that are initiated regularly. NCTCOG participates in numerous local special events to spread the word about 9-1-1. The NCTCOG 9-1-1 public education staff participate in North Texas Crime Prevention Association, Fire Prevention Association of North Texas and the 9-1-1 Public Educators of Texas.
